FinanceSmart started with a simple frustration: most personal-finance content is either trying to sell you something or burying simple ideas under jargon. We believe most people don't need a wealth manager — they need a clear picture of where their money goes and a few good habits to lean on.
What began as a spreadsheet shared between friends grew into a small library of free calculators and plain-English guides. Every tool we publish has to pass one test: would we actually use it ourselves to make a real decision? If not, it doesn't go live.
Who writes FinanceSmart
Our guides are written and reviewed by a small team of personal-finance writers:
- Maya Okafor — writes about budgeting and debt. A former retail-banking associate who now translates money basics into plain English.
- Daniel Reyes — covers saving and emergency funds. Spent six years helping families build their first budgets and safety nets.
- Priya Nair — writes about investing and retirement for first-time investors, with a background in financial education focused on making market basics approachable.
How we make money
We keep the tools and guides free for everyone, and we fund the site through unobtrusive display advertising. We don't sell the personal information of our visitors, and we don't publish affiliate content we wouldn't recommend to a friend. The numbers you type into our calculators are processed in your browser and aren't stored on our servers.
An important note
FinanceSmart publishes general educational information only. We are not financial advisors, accountants, or attorneys, and nothing on this site is personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. For decisions specific to your situation, please consult a qualified professional. You can read the full terms on our Terms of Service page.
If FinanceSmart helps you cancel one subscription, negotiate one bill, or finally start an emergency fund, we've done our job. Thanks for being here.
